it's time again
i can't believe it's time again for the sunday postcard challenge. i missed last week's challenge. i just didn't have time to get anything ready so i didn't want miss this week. this week's theme was "wings and crowns". i decided to take a little uncoventional route.

a challenge
i belong to a group on flikr that does weekly challenges with collage images. you can make what ever you wish out of the images provided. this week it seemed pretty challenging when i printed out the sheet but a few of the collage items just spoke "rooster" to me. so that idea provided a springboard for this postcard.

changing things up
it's been quite a long time since i've actually done art that has been in a form other than a postcard. someone asked me to exchange a rolodex card with them. it was a nice change of pace to do this plus i got to dig out these stamps to use. i bought them at the rubber stamp convention in april. when i saw them they made me smile. i have so many rolodex cards now that they no longer fit into my rolodex holder and i had to move them into a photgraph box until i figure something else out for storage. i didn't want to spend more money to get another rolodex holder and have them divided. eventually something will turn up that is just the perfect solution.

cutting up
i've been busy in the art room today cutting out collage images. i love to cut out tiny things. the smaller and more intricate the better. it seems like it is a kind of therapy for me. i get mezmerized and lose track of time. after i cut quite a few things out i decided to use them to make another piece of art. it's no surprise it's a postcard.

yup...another postcard
ok. so i confess. i am obsessed with postcard making. i can't help myself it seems. here is one i worked on today. it's sort of a parody because honestly, i think i have the worst hair in the world. so this one is for all of us that suffer from those terrible hair days.

a new postcard challenge
i just joined a new group for postcard challenges. the host provides you with a collage sheet of various images and you are to try to use as many as you can in your art entry for the week. i chose to do a postcard because, as everyone can see, i am currently obsessed with making them. they are so fun to trade tho, as they are easy to mail (no envelope required), are only 20 some cents to mail in the u.s. and are a great size to work on. here is my entry for this week's challenge.

alpha stamps
i found some time to work on a postcard using some alpha stamp products. if you haven't checked out their website yet you really ought to. they have something new that i just love to use. they are collage sheets that are printed on transparent paper. you can cut around them or cut out shapes, just peel the backing off, and stick the image to your paper. it has such a nice look i think. i've posted the postcard that i made using one of those images. if you want to check out their inventory of collage sheets you can visit their website at: www.alphastamps.com.

making paper
you know those fabulous samples of artist papers you find in the middle of the somerset magazines? i find myself always admiring them and then thinking to myself, "roc? why don't you try to make your own paper?" but alas, you know how life goes, it usually diverts me to other things and i never get around to doing it. what a nice surprise i had today as i found myself making some of my own artist paper. i'm not quite sure if they are "done" or not, but i figured i can always add to them if i wake up tomorrow and feel inclined to do so. here are a couple of samples of my paper i made today as well as a postcard i made using another piece of the handmade paper.
