making time for art

life has been very busy around here lately and i've really had to scramble to find time to make art. i'm going to visit my son in 2 days and i really wanted to get some things done for some upcoming challenges so i'm making a mad dash back and forth to the art room inbetween all the other things i have to get done today. there is an alphabet challenge taking place and we are on the letter h. i made this postcard specifically for this challenge and now i think i want to keep it. gosh darn it, sometimes it is hard to let things go once i make them. i don't know if it is because of the amount of energy you put into a piece or if the piece once completed just speaks to you, but i have to decide today so i am feeling a little pressure about it.

  1. Oh my...I know how you feel. I've often created something that becomes almost painful to part with. I think it's both...the time involved and your connection to it.
After all...you wouldn't have made it the way you did if you didn't like it.
I think we all need to keep something now and then. What a shame it would be if we didn't end up with some of our own work.
    The piece is beautiful Roc.
You are sooo gosh darn creative I'm quite sure you'll come up with something else!!

  2. Keep it....I think it is really important to keep some of your own art. Especially when it speaks to you...This is awesome roc. I always make an extra page for myself to keep. Happy 4th....Hugs, Diane

  3. Keep it! It's a real beauty, fantastic. (My Mum just can't understand why I give all my art away :-)))
Maybe you should make another one just like it. Keep one and give one away......
    Kate :-)
P.S. Your lovely lovely birthday postcard arrived today. You are very sweet and I love it. The mail people didn't even stick a mail sticker on the front like they usually do! Thanks Roc, you made me :-)

  8. This is gorgeous, Roc! Sometimes it's very difficult to make the time for art, but it's sooooo worthwhile when we do!

OK, I'm voting with the majority of the "keep it" people! If it's speaking to you, then listen with your heart! Have a wonderful weekend and visit! Hugs, Terri xoxo

  10. Hi Roc! Thank you for the sweet comments on my blog and flickr!

I love your "H" postcard! Put my vote in the "keep it" pile. I parted with a few of my favorite pieces, and I regret it!

    Hugs! -Shelly

  11. I find that if I am feeling this way about a piece, then I do not let it go right away... I live with it for a while until I am ready to share it. Sometimes it feels like we are sending big chunks of ourselves out into the world but I am a firm believer than it all comes back to you twofold. Have a fabulous time with your son...we'll miss you! xox
